Consignor Submission

Bid & Hammer looks forward to receiving consignments for consideration in auction or an appropriate sale. All consignors/sellers/artists contacting us in connection with sales of items that do not fall in the category of our upcoming auctions/sales might not receive a response due to the high number of submissions that we receive. If your items are shortlisted we will contact you in due course via the details submitted in the form.

Kindly ensure that as many details as possible are accurately filled and submitted for a faster response from our team. You will have to submit a new form for every additional work.

    Consigning item(s) at B&H’s auctions

    Selling at auction is simple provided you follow the guidelines below. It is recognised as the best way to achieve the best possible open market prices and the process is secure. Please note that B&H acts solely as agent on your behalf.

    1. An initial contact is made by the Seller with B&H expressing an interest in selling.

    2. The Seller either brings the work directly to B&H or forwards good photographs for review. This should also include all available description, artist/manufacturer’s name, subject, size, medium and any background/history or provenance relevant to the item/s including purchase receipts/invoice or details of past owner/s.

    3. B&H will carry out an initial assessment as soon as possible but certainly within 14 days (if the items falls in the category of any of its upcoming auctions) and report back to the owner. B&H and the owner take a joint decision at this stage as to the viability of auction as the best means of sale for the particular item/s.

    4. Following acceptance of the item/s for sale (which may again be dependant on the physical inspection), the terms of business with sellers and consignors is drawn up and the consignment sent to B&H.

    5. Once received by B&H, the consignment is fully researched to establish final values.

    6. At this stage, the final reserve prices and estimated prices are agreed along with the sale in which the item/s will be included.

    7. The item/s are then professionally photographed and catalogued and included as appropriate in the designated sale.

    8. Upon successful sale of the item/s, as per the terms of business with sellers and consignors, the Seller will be paid in full, less B&H’s commission and any other handling charges, upon receipt of funds from the Buyer.
